Stan "Strawberry" Denny father of Cheryl (Denny) Tucker '75 and Steve Denny '78; grandfather of assistant principal and social studies teacher Steve Beyl '99 (PHS English and Spanish teacher Corinne Alles '99) Sarah (Beyl) Furlow '01 and PHS English teacher Kristina (Beyl) Van Laan '05; and brother-in-law of Betty Jo (Zurschmiede) Braitling '59 (James '58) passed away April 16 2017.
In the midst of a short pro baseball career Stan was hired as teacher and coach at Providence in 1957 and remained until May 1962. He taught U.S. history and business arithmetic and in 1958 was the founding teacher of the visual arts program. He was assistant coach for basketball football and baseball. Throughout southern Indiana he was a renowned sports cartoonist and photographer. At Providence his most recognizable contribution was the Pioneer head logo that characterized PHS athletics from about 1970 to 2014.
